We have prepared a wonderful and challenging opportunity for you. We're inviting you to create a mural in collaboration with the youth of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. I hope you'll step up to the task or send it to other artists who would like to do so. CITYarts is looking for an artist or a team of artists to create a mural in collaboration with CITYarts and community youth on the exterior wall of the St. John's Recreation Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The creative process will take place this spring/summer.

Project Description
Under the program Global HeART Warming, CITYarts intends to bring together community youth, former graffiti offenders, and seniors to paint a mural that celebrates nature and raises awareness of global warming. Starting in June, youth will sign up to work under the leadership of a professional artist to create a mural on the exterior wall of their community center. The creative process will include brainstorming workshops and painting the designed mural on the wall.

CITYarts' goal is to give youth an alternative to vandalism and violence; to build a bridge of diversity and unity between all members of the community, both young and old; and most importantly, to empower our youth to become active participants in shaping their own future while creating a mural they are all proud of.

To Apply, please submit:

1. 5 - 10 images of your recent work on slides, a CD, or a website link if applicable
2. A current resume
3. A one-page statement that outlines your thoughts & approach to the work specified
4. A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your materials

2. The artist fee will be $10,000. There will be a separate materials budget.

Thinking globally and acting locally, CITYarts' projects build bridges of cultural understanding, giving youth the opportunity to take an active role in shaping their own future.

The Young Minds Build Bridges program connects our youth in New York to the international community, spreading their voices in a quest for peace and raising awareness of global warming.

Our projects give youth a stage to ask, "What can I do to reduce the speed of global warming?" Our teens are taking the future into their own hands, getting actively involved in their communities, and assuming responsibility through the creation of murals and mosaics with CITYarts.

Since 1968, CITYarts has created 268 projects that have transformed communities and impacted over 100,000 kids, collaborated with more than 500 artists, and partnered with over 300,000 volunteers in the process.
