In an energizing gathering at the German House on UN Plaza, Consul General of Germany Dr. Horst Freitag and German UN Ambassador Thomas Matussek greeted over 100 guests that came from around the world for The Armory Show in support of CITYarts’ exhibition Pieces for Peace.

Art Bears an Olive Branch

CITYarts and the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan invite families to "Pieces for Peace," a traveling mosaic of 251 original works of art created by children around the world. Through September 16, an array of colorful drawings, paintings, photographs and poems line the walls of the Laurie M. Tisch Gallery, each expressing a wish for peace.

"Pieces For Peace" Mosaic Helps Students Create An International Dialogue

It's Natali Ohayon's first visit to New York, and this 16-year-old student from Israel has already left her mark on the city. She's one of seven international students invited to create a mosaic mural with local youth.
"We have so many people from so many different places, and we can get along," she says.

Pieces For Peace Puts Kids' Hopes For The World On Display

They've got the whole world in their hands and a group of students hope to change it for the better.
"I'm drawing a man creating the world," says one little boy. "I'm trying to make the world very peaceful."
Students from P.S. 192 in Hamilton Heights are starting to make the world better by changing the landscape in the own backyard. They're creating individual tiles for a mosaic mural that's just getting started on a wall, along the back of their school field.

CITYarts seeks school nominations worldwide
Allianz Foundation for North America / Novato, CaliforniaPeople in communities around the globe are invited to nominate local schools to join the international "Pieces for Peace" project, sponsored by the Allianz Foundation for North America.
The Allianz Foundation teamed up this year with CITYarts, one of New York City's premier public art organizations, to create the "Pieces for Peace" mosaic project. CITYarts is a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging young people in public art projects, community revitalization and international dialogue.
