Summer Intern, 2009
When searching for a summer internship, I wanted to find something that would allow me to be involved in the nitty-gritty of the public art process. I am glad to say, that I was able to do so at CITYarts, as I had a chance to work with the lead artists and take responsibility and leadership during projects. Moreover, I was able to supplement these experiences with administrative work, which let me see the other side of the process. Also, we spilled paint like it was going out of style. Not only did I have the chance to restore a mosaic, I also participated in the production of a fully new piece of art. At pieces for peace, we got to know the surrounding community, and I realized that graffiti is often the crime of only a few individuals, as most of the residents were overjoyed to see the work restored. I appreciated the support that we received, both from onlookers and volunteers. At the Stonehenge project, I got to design parts of the 14-piece mural, and see them come to life. Working with the lead artist, I learned how to coordinate volunteers and delegate tasks efficiently. More importantly, I worked with people of various ages, especially children, and cooperated successfully with my fellow interns. Interning with CITYarts was a valuable experience and made for a great summer! I loved the work I did and the people I worked with.
