Mission Statement

CITYarts empowers children by bringing them together with professional artists to create public art that addresses civic and social issues, impacts their lives, and transforms their communities. Since its founding in 1968, CITYarts has engaged nearly 100,000 New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds in the process of designing and creating more than 250 murals, mosaics and sculptures.

CITYarts, thinking Globally acting Locally -

will produce,“Pieces for Peace” mosaic with Youth from around the World. This project is designed to build bridges of international understanding, by bringing American children and their peers from around the world together to design and create an online mosaic comprised of tile-size drawings, paintings and poems. These elements will be incorporated into a permanent, large-scale outdoor mosaic in Harlem, New York City. A traveling exhibition is planned to start at the UN Headquarters.

Our goal is to reach out to teens around the world, give them the chance to connect through Peace and become active individuals who are giving back to the society.
