Dear Friends,
Our 41st Anniversary celebration was a
glamorous, beautiful event. As you can see, we even made it to the very popular
page in the New York Times Style Section, with photographs by Bill Cunningham.
It was very meaningful friend-raising event that gives us momentum. We reached
as far as Dubai and Qatar with a delegation of beautiful Dubai ladies in
attendance representing one of our award recipients,Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid
Al Maktoum. We also watched with
amazement Her Highness' video of her philanthropic foundation and her father
Sheikh Mohammed who endorses it.
The award to
Louise Bourgeois was presented by Guggenheim curator Nancy Spector after the
showing of a clip from Amei Wallach's documentary on the world renowned artist.
The award was created by CITYarts kids from the Little Red School House and was
accepted by Rosamond Bernier on Louise Bourgeois' behalf.
The award to Lisa
Dennison was presented by the Chairman of our event and President of the Board
of Trustees of the Guggenheim Museum, Jennifer Stockman. She emphasized the
importance of arts education to our younger generation, and how both of our
organizations work hard to impact more kids. Lisa Dennison, Chairman
of Sotheby's North and South America and former Director of the Solomon R.
Guggenheim Museum, New York, accepted her beautiful brick award created
by Marilyn Minter with gratitude to CITYarts and to the Guggenheim Museum
family, represented at the event by Jennifer Stockman, curator Nancy Spector,
Director Richard Armstrong, and Director of Learning through the Arts Art Kim
Kanatani.
After the showing of the very engaging video from Dubai,
the award created by Ursula von Rydingsvard was presented to Her Highness and
accepted by Dr. Lamees Hamdan.
The live auction was run as always by Jennifer Roth of
Sotheby's and was very lively, selling all live auction pieces in the show by:
Christo, Zigi Ben-Haim, William Wegman, Louise Fishman, Bahar Behbahani, and
Arman. Guests also bid enthusiastically on opportunities to support kids
painting a wall during the summer and sponsor a piece of a peace wall to be
created.
Over 300 guests from all walks of life then enjoyed a
very tasty buffet dinner catered by Great Performances. Everyone enjoyed the
silent auction, jazz music by the Kris Baumann Trio, and martinis!
Friend-raising was a great success, but unfortunately the fundraising fell a
little short. This is where you come in. We hope to reach our goal by receiving
donations of any size whatsoever to help get our youth engaged this summer
restoring the Pieces for Peace mosaic
or painting a mural in Harlem. Please sponsor a kid to have a great artistic
summer with CITYarts!
Have a great summer.
My very best wishes,
Tsipi Ben-Haim Executive & Artistic Director

Thinking globally and acting locally,
CITYarts' projects build bridges of cultural understanding and give
youth the opportunity to take an active role in shaping their future. The Young Minds Build Bridges program connects our youth in New York to the international
community, spreading their voices in a quest for peace and raising awareness of global warming.
Our projects give youth a stage to ask, "What
can I do to reduce the speed of global warming?" Our teens are taking
the future into their own hands, getting actively involved in their
communities, and assuming responsibility through the creation of murals
and mosaics with CITYarts.
Since 1968, CITYarts has created 272 projects that have
transformed communities and impacted over 100,000 kids, collaborated
with more than 500 artists, and partnered with over 300,000 volunteers
in the process. Thank you in advance for your generous support and for
joining CITYarts in celebrating 40 years of "Making a Difference
Through the Arts." |
