Dear Friends,
I'm so happy to let you know about a new partnership that we just began with Stonehenge Management. We were invited to create a public art project at Stonehenge Village in collaboration with their young tenants, because the management believes that "every child is unique and we want them to feel that our home is their home."
In five extensive workshops, the young neighbors painted their favorite animals, flowers, and trees, all as part of our project to celebrate nature and raise awareness of global warming. Our lead artists, Duda Penteado and Jordan Taler, edited their work and together with the community they recently started painting the 18 large planters in the backyard of 120 West 97th Street. Every planter celebrates a different animal's life and environment - giraffes, turtles, birds, elephants, and beautiful flowers like water lilies.
One of the stars of the HBO series The Sopranos, Federico Castelluccio, whose first love is painting, will join the community in painting his favorite animal - a butterfly - on one of the planters.
You are invited to join us to watch, paint, or come up with your own ideas to celebrate nature and raise together the good spirit for "Trees for Peace", which will be planted in the concrete painted planters after the completion of the creative process.
Please make sure you email or call us if you would like to visit the project site - or to participate! We are working on it Monday through Friday, 11 am to 5 pm.
I am looking forward to enjoying the power of art and nature with you!
All my best,
Tsipi Ben-Haim Executive & Artistic Director

Thinking globally and acting locally,
CITYarts' projects build bridges of cultural understanding and give
youth the opportunity to take an active role in shaping their future. The Young Minds Build Bridges program connects our youth in New York to the international
community, spreading their voices in a quest for peace and raising awareness of global warming.
Our projects give youth a stage to ask, "What
can I do to reduce the speed of global warming?" Our teens are taking
the future into their own hands, getting actively involved in their
communities, and assuming responsibility through the creation of murals
and mosaics with CITYarts.
Since 1968, CITYarts has created 272 projects that have
transformed communities and impacted over 100,000 kids, collaborated
with more than 500 artists, and partnered with over 300,000 volunteers
in the process. Thank you in advance for your generous support and for
joining CITYarts in celebrating 40 years of "Making a Difference
Through the Arts." |
