CITYarts celebrates
National Service Day!

Vol. IV
Issue: 12

Dear Friends,

This new "Era of Social Responsibility" has been at the heart of CITYarts' mission since its founding in 1968, long before our new president, Barack Obama, declared it.  Therefore, we are so excited and thankful that he has brought it to the front and center of the nation's consciousness. We have been calling upon our children, youth, and artists to take upon themselves the responsibilities of giving back to their communities. Every program and project engages our youth in addressing a civic and social problem while treating it with hope for the future.

These days, we have no choice but to think of social responsibility as the most important value in our lives, young or old. In fact, we should look at today's hard times as an opportunity and a challenge to bring about global change for the better. We can all serve, enjoying the satisfaction of being part of this much needed change and, in the process, help our community at large.

CITYarts' Young Minds Build Bridges program does exactly that. It provides our future leaders with the opportunity to serve the world while being active participants in shaping their own future. Our latest Pieces for Peace workshop, orchestrated by our dedicated staff with the help of the staff at Grant's Tomb, drew over 200 volunteers, on Monday, January 19th. They all wanted to contribute their "drop of hope" on Obama's day of service to help usher in a new era of responsibility.

Thank you for helping us today and in the future to accomplish our mission to create a better world.

"You will be remembered by what you build..."
 - President Barack Hussein Obama

I am looking forward to many years of meaningful service with you all.

Best,
Tsipi Ben-Haim
Executive & Artistic Director

Thinking globally and acting locally, CITYarts' projects build bridges of cultural understanding and give youth the opportunity to take an active role in shaping their future.

The Young Minds Build Bridges program connects our youth in New York to the international community, spreading their voices in a quest for peace and raising awareness of global warming.

Our projects give youth a stage to ask, "What can I do to reduce the speed of global warming?" Our teens are taking the future into their own hands, getting actively involved in their communities, and assuming responsibility through the creation of murals and mosaics with CITYarts.

Since 1968, CITYarts has created 268 projects that have transformed communities and impacted over 100,000 kids, collaborated with more than 500 artists, and partnered with over 300,000 volunteers in the process.

Thank you in advance for your generous support and for joining CITYarts in celebrating 40 years of "Making a Difference Through the Arts."
