Dear Friends,
CITYarts' 278th project, "Windows to the
Future", is on its way. We're so happy to announce our collaboration with a
very special organization, Harlem RBI.
We were brought together by Bernadette Longford, the Manager of NY Corporate
Community Relations for the Walt Disney Company, who also decided to sponsor
the first year of the mural, as part of a three-year process.
As we say, we go brick-by-brick, changing the community with their youth for the better.
Here is the beginning of the creative process - workshops
led by two collaborating artists, Maria Berrio and Jordan Taler. The painting
on the wall will be our next step, with Disney and community volunteers joining us in
the process. The dates will be announced as the weather gets warmer in April 2010.
At this time, we wanted to share with you the proud faces of our youth participants as they draw ideas about their community and
answer the question, "What does peace look like to me?"
With best wishes for the coming holidays,
Tsipi Ben-Haim Executive & Artistic Director

Thinking globally and acting locally,
CITYarts' projects build bridges of cultural understanding and give
youth the opportunity to take an active role in shaping their future. The Young Minds Build Bridges program connects our youth in New York to the international
community, spreading their voices in a quest for peace and raising awareness of global warming.
Our projects give youth a stage to ask, "What
can I do to reduce the speed of global warming?" Our teens are taking
the future into their own hands, getting actively involved in their
communities, and assuming responsibility through the creation of murals
and mosaics with CITYarts.
Since 1968, CITYarts has created 278 projects that have
transformed communities and impacted over 100,000 kids, collaborated
with more than 500 artists, and partnered with over 300,000 volunteers
in the process. Thank you in advance for your generous support and for
joining CITYarts in celebrating 40 years of "Making a Difference
Through the Arts." |
