CITYarts Peace Wall in Process - Jaffa, Israel
Vol. XVI, Issue: 33

Dear Friends,

As the Muslim people are praying while observing Ramadan, the Jewish people are about to welcome their 5771 New Year with prayers for Peace. Here and around the world, CITYarts unites our future leaders  - children and youth under one flag, the Peace Flag. And what is more hopeful and symbolic than our mosaic Peace Wall in Jaffa, Israel, created by Jewish and Arab youth and their families? Ambassador Dan Gillerman and his wife, Janice, came to put their Piece for Peace on the wall, too.

In honor of Ramadan and Rosh Hashana, the work at the wall stopped and will resume at the beginning of October when more children and youth can come to place their quest for peace on the wall. One father who joined his son to work on the wall remarked, "How could I say no when he asked me to join him to work on the wall on my day off?" Our hope, as we begin the new school year, is that parents and grandparents will join the children  to give a hand in contributing to their future, help them take ownership of a better world, and unite and build bridges of cultural understanding. CITYarts is already engaging over 5,000 kids in more than 50 countries on 6 continents.

We await your ideas, thoughts and support - please let us know how we can do things even better! We need you to get involved; please don't miss out on this opportunity to become an ACTIVE PART of the Change for Better. "If we can dream it, we can bring it about" - I truly believe it and live by it.

Here's how to get involved:

1. Come to the wall to lend a hand in the creative process (Kedem Street 163, Jaffa, the Arabic neighborhood right across from the Peres Peace Center)

2. Connect us with a school Middle School or High School who can participate

3. Come to the wall and photograph or film the project for CITYarts

4. Bring refreshments (water, cookies, etc.) to the volunteers.

5. Forward this email to all your friends and colleagues. Good news is hard to find - help spread this one!

6. We have a Publicity Wall at the Arab-Hebrew Theatre of Jaffa. Please bring people there to see information about the progress of the project.

7. Funds are always welcome, too!

Have an easy Ramadan, Shama Tova, Peace Blessings, and a peaceful Labor Day weekend,

Tsipi Ben-Haim, Executive & Artistic Director, CITYarts, Inc.

"Thinking globally - acting locally, CITYarts projects build bridges of cultural understanding and give youth the opportunity to take an active role in shaping their future".

-- Tsipi Ben-Haim, CITYarts Executive & Artistic Director

MISSION
CITYarts empowers children and youth by bringing them together with professional artists to create public art that addresses civic and social issues, impacts their lives, and transforms their communities.

PROGRAMS
We give our children and youth the opportunity to get actively involved in their communities, do something to make their world a better place, and assume responsibility through the creation of murals and mosaics led by professional artists.

PROJECTS

CITYarts public art projects give youth a stage to ask, "What does peace look like to me?", "What can I do to reduce the speed of global warming?", and other urgent and relevant questions, and to address them artistically through cooperation and creation.

RESULTS

Since 1968, CITYarts has created over 280 projects, transformed over 200 communities, impacted over 100,000 kids in New York and over 5,000 kids internationally, collaborated with 500 artists, and partnered with 300,000 volunteersin the process, with the consistent sponsorship of corporations, foundations, and individuals.
