Beatrice M. Mady

Beatrice M. Mady, born in New York City, currently lives and works in Jersey City, New Jersey. She had two studios in SoHo, one on Greene Street and the other on Canal at the corner of Greene and lived on Broome Street in the late 1970s and to the mid 80s.

Mady received an M.F.A. in painting from Pratt Institute and a B.F.A. from the University of Dayton. She was a recipient of a Ford Foundation Grant, a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Grant and several Kenny Grants. Her works are in corporate and public collections throughout the United States.

Color is the core around which her dialog begins. Trained as a painter, Mady is also fascinated by technology and science and for many years has been creating digital works in Illustrator where she incorporates her photographs into vector based prints. The intent is to fuse together her personal iconography with that of the landscapes and cultures she photographs by expressing visually ideas for which she has no words. In the studio, these notions present themselves in ways that she does not always expect.

Her purely modernist paintings focus on color, shape and form. Mady tends to work in series as it allows her to focus on a concentrated assemblage of similar ideas and/or restrictions. Mady believes it is important to listen to one’s own work and journey on the path it presents.
