Press Release

Benefit Print Project is pleased to announce the publication of a new edition by Alec Soth. Monika, Warsaw is an exemplary photograph from the artist’s acclaimed series, titled I Know How Furiously Your Heart Is Beating, which was recently presented in concurrent exhibitions at Sean Kelly Gallery, New York; Weinstein Hammons Gallery, Minneapolis; Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco; and Loock Galerie, Berlin. According to Soth, in creating the color portraits and images of interiors that compose the series, “… I wanted to simply spend time looking at other people and, hopefully, glimpse their interior life...Whether a picture is made in Odessa or Minneapolis, my goal was the same: to simply spend time in the presence of another beating heart.”

Alec Soth lives and works in Minneapolis, US. He has published over 25 books, and has had over 50 solo exhibitions at international museums like Deichtorhallen Hamburg, DE; Detroit Institute of Arts, US; Finnish Museum of Photography, Helsinki, FI; Fotomuseum Winterthur, CH; Jeu de Paume, Paris, FR; National Science and Media Museum, Bradford, UK; and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, US.

Soth’s works of art are in the collections of, amongst numerous other institutions, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, US; Brooklyn Museum, US; Israel Museum, Jerusalem, IL; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, US; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, US; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, US; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, US; Museum of Modern Art, New York, US; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, US; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, US; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, US. Soth is a member of Magnum Photos, and was the recipient of a 2013 Guggenheim Fellowship.

CITYarts engages youth with professional artists in the creation of public art, including murals and mosaic. Through this creative process, CITYarts empowers, educates, and connects youth and children locally and around the world to become active participants in realizing their potential and transforming communities. Since 1989, CITYarts has created over 330 projects that have transformed communities and impacted over 200,000 kids, collaborated with more than 500 artists, partnered with over 1,500 sponsors, and engaged over 500,000 volunteers. CITYarts is widely credited as the pioneering force in the creation of the contemporary community mural movement in New York City. Because of CITYarts’ 30-year history of engaging youth in beautifying their own neighborhoods, Tsipi Ben-Haim can state without reservation – “when kids create, they do not destroy.”
