SoHo Artists History Walk Online Exhibition Part I

Curated by Lesley Heller and Tsipi Ben-Haim

Exhibition advisors Joyce Pomeroy-Schwartz and Charlotta Kotik

This exhibition celebrates the artists who live or have at one point in their careers lived & worked in New York’s SoHo neighborhood from the late '60s through today. They transformed the dark and beaten-up streets into a cultural oasis that became a model of live/work spaces for communities around the world. This unique historic neighborhood they have created has changed over the years along with the rest of New York City. However, the artistic spirit and creativity that can be felt walking along the cobblestone streets and their historic landmark buildings is inspiring to us all. Yet, in spite of this many politicians are considering destroying it through up-zoning to allow for the construction of high-rise buildings that will put the historical uniqueness of this neighborhood in the shadows and shatter its spirit.

CITYarts is actively reaching out to the new Mayor of NYC, Eric Adams, as well as the Manhattan Borough President, Mark Levine, to help them understand why we should continue to preserve this unique neighborhood as a jewel in the crown of NYC, not destroy it.

Please take time to view the work of the SoHo artists below.

50% of the proceeds will go to the artist and 50% to CITYarts non profit work. A portion of CITYarts proceeds will be allocated to promoting the work of incarcerated American Indian artist Leonard Peltier.
